The short version

This site itself sets no cookies. Google's advertising code does, and it runs on every page.

What loads on this page

Two scripts come from outside this domain, both from Google, both on every page:

WhatWhere it comes fromWhy
AdSense tag, publisher ca-pub-0745848274612756pagead2.googlesyndication.comServes the advertising that funds the site
Google's consent message ("Privacy & messaging", also called Funding Choices)Loaded by the AdSense tagAsks for and stores your advertising choice where that is required

There is nothing else. No analytics product, no tag manager, no font loader, no social embed, no pixel from any other company. Everything else the page needs — the calculator, the stylesheet, the icon — is served from this domain.

Ads are not showing yet. The tag is live but no ad unit is switched on, because Google has not finished reviewing the site. The code that can set cookies is already there, which is why this page is written as it is. We would rather over-disclose than let you meet an undisclosed cookie.

Which cookies can be set

These are the cookies Google's own documentation lists for the products we run. Purposes and lifetimes are Google's, not our estimates.

Google's cookie policy also names IDE and id as the cookies used to show Google ads on non-Google sites — IDE to personalise ads where personalisation is on, id to remember your choice where it is off.

Two honest limits on this table:

  1. We do not control it. Google decides which of its cookies its code sets, and when. The list above is what Google documents today; Google can change it. If you want the authoritative version at the moment you read this, Google's advertising cookies page is the source and it is kept current.
  2. We have not watched Google's script run. Our own release test blocks the real Google script and substitutes a stub, so it can check our page under the live security policy without calling Google. So the table is sourced from Google's documentation, not from cookies we observed ourselves. We tell you that rather than pretend to a measurement we did not make.

How to refuse, and how to change your mind

Where you are asked. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, Google's message appears with three options: Consent, Do not consent, and Manage options for a per-purpose choice. Google requires a certified consent platform integrated with the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework for personalised ads in those regions — since 16 January 2024 for the EEA and the UK, and 31 July 2024 for Switzerland. Google's own message, "Google LLC CMP", is certified for this; that is the one we use. We added no third company to the chain.

Changing your mind. Use the Cookie settings button at the bottom of any page. It reopens Google's own dialog, with the same three options. Google requires that a visitor can adjust their choice after the first answer, which is exactly what that button is for.

Refusing costs you nothing here. All four calculator modes run in your browser and need no cookie, no storage and no network call. Refuse everything and the arithmetic is identical.

What refusing does not do. It does not remove advertising from the site, and it does not stop your IP address being visible to the servers that deliver the page and the ads — that is true of any website. See the privacy statement for that part.

Blocking cookies in your browser

Browsers let you delete existing cookies, block new ones, and set a preference per site. Google's own page on this describes the Chrome settings in detail and notes that mobile browsers may give you less visibility into cookies. For any other browser, check its own settings documentation.

Blocking cookies on this domain will not affect the calculator.

What is not a cookie

Nothing you type is a cookie, and nothing you type is stored. Your points, grades, weights, targets and custom scale stay in the page while it is open and are gone when you reload it. The calculator writes no cookie, no localStorage, no sessionStorage and no IndexedDB entry.

Your IP address is visible to the services that deliver the page — Cloudflare, our reverse proxy, this site's web server — and now also to Google, which has to receive a request from your browser in order to send back its script. That is unavoidable and it is not a cookie. The privacy statement sets it out in full.
